Cariló, Buenos Aires Province, Argentina

Cariló
Buenos Aires Province
- Argentina

Stylish & Distinguished
Cariló is located 360 km far from the City of Buenos Aires (follow BA-La Plata Highway, then Route 2 until your reach the town of Dolores, continue on Route 63 until Esquina de Crotto, then Route 11, Route 56 and again Route 11). For this trip, I took a bus from Retiro Station (in BA) to Pinamar and once in Pinamar I took a taxi to Cariló.
Cariló is a village that is immersed in the woods, what gives it a very special athmosphere. The buildings you will find are amazing, since all the houses follow the same distinguished style.
The streets are deliberalety sandy and unpaved and there is no public lighting, so that the natural rusticity of the village is preserved. Cariló has a fairly big commercial center and its architectural design is naturally in line with the rest of the village. It's a good place for eating out and shopping (and the only available option, indeed).
I would definitely not recommend Cariló to an Argentine who expects easy-on-the-pocket vacations. Good life is sometimes hard to afford and Cariló is certainly one of the most expensive destinations in Argentina (still quite inexpensive in dollars).
I strongly recommend the hotel where we stayed at, which included facilities such as warm swimming pool, sauna, Scottish jets... one of the best in town.
Among the places I know in Argentina, I believe Cariló is top on the list. It's the ideal location for those looking for rest and for being in contact with nature.

Where to eat: In the commercial center you will find some fancy little restaurants and, again, this pleasant atmosphere which is part of the village.
I had lunch at a very good Mexican restaurant... it won't be hard to find because it's the one of its kind.

Weather: Even though I traveled during the fall season (April), the weather was always fine and we could even sunbathe at the beach.

Traveler's nightmare: Walking at night without a car is rather unsafe in Cariló. As I stated before, the village preserves its green areas, therefore no street public lighling exists and if you leave at night you will find yourself immersed in complete darkness.
The beach is just regular, as all Argentine beaches - lots of wind and cold water.
Some people in the village need to show-off their wealth in order to feel good and sometimes that pisses you off.

Things you should not miss: Don't miss hiring a bicycle and exploring the village over two wheels. This is a very interesting way to know Cariló, although the rental will cost you a 10% of the bicycle value...
You *must* go to Abuela Goye, a nice cafe located in the commercial area where you can taste fine chocolates and coffees... it's really pleasant.
